Demo (1997–2002)
In 1997, Adam Gontier, Neil Sanderson, and Brad Walst united again to continue their musical work together. Originally a cover band, the trio named the band Three Days Grace. The meaning is derived from a sense of urgency as Adam Gontier explains:
"We sort of look at Three Days Grace, as it sort of stands for a sense of urgency. Time to pay a debt. If you had three days to change something in your life or if [you] wanted to change something in your life, could you do it in three days?"
With the help of Thousand Foot Krutch's Trevor McNevan, Three Days Grace recorded a three-track demo album, which released about one hundred copies. Three Days Grace first toured with Thousand Foot Krutch as their opening band.

Unofficial release
Although only 100 copies of the demo were distributed, all three songs on the EP have been widely leaked across peer-to-peer file sharing programs and various web sites. To date, no Billboard recognition of the demo exists. Although the official Three Days Grace website has no content specifically regarding the demo, user content on the site mentions it frequently.

Mimo zaledwie 100 egzemplarzy, wszystkie płyty demo zostały szybko rozdane, wszystkie trzy piosenki na EP zostały szeroko rozpowszechnione całej sieci peer-to-peer i różnych stronach internetowych. Do tej pory Billboard nie uznał że demo istnieje. Mimo że Oficjalna strona Three Days Grace nie zawiera żadnych informacji zwłaszcza w związku z płytą demo, użytkownicy strony wspominają o niej bardzo często.
